i had the best day today! due to an almost-expired free ticket from southwest, i just decided to steal away from davis for a weekend in my hometown, los angeles. it is so nice being back. when i was living here, i always felt "displaced" cuz i moved there pretty late, in the middle of high school. But looking back now, it feels like home now.
we watched baz luhrmann's la boheme. it was better than i expected, although i think the reviews were correct about the singing not being as high quality, compared to if the LA Opera was doing la boheme. but the sets were amazing, as were the translations. (excerpts are: "You Marlon Brando!" and "Come here, you hack") The love story, set with that kind of soaring music... you can't lose with that combination. it was beautiful to watch.
then we spent the evening in my favorite hangout place in LA, old town pas! an old favorite of mine, and after "waiting" for an hour and a half (we spent most of that time shopping), we finally got a table for two and had my favorite, bikini martini, and tiramisu cheesecake. i missed having dessert at cheesecake.
and i'm going back home tomorrow! back to studying for my histology quiz, which is on monday...

i know, i haven't written in forever... school kinda got in the way. Physiology, metabolic biochemistry, histology... whew. scary.
md/phd interviews are today! i can't believe it's been a year since i've interviewed. time really flies.

psst. the new beat on the street is that jolene has been spending all her time recently working on a new website, a korean one! she found out that since blogspot won't support pics, this site will. although most of her friends can't read Korean, she did it anyways cuz she's on vacation and has nothing better to do. the website is: http://www.cyworld.com/miyoung621 . Two pages should pop up, and on the smaller one, there are blue tabs on the right side of this page. Click on the fifth one from the top- this is my photo album. Either that, or from Home, usually under "Updated news", I'll have updated my pics the most recently so you can click on those and go directly to my photo album. if you're totally confused, find a Korean friend who reads Korean and have them help you. have fun! enjoy vacation before the quarter starts.
my last night in korea! it definitely is mixed, but one thing i'll know for sure that i'll miss this place. i've learned to associate korea with vacation (skinnerian psychology), and so seoul definitely has a spot in my heart. this is also where my parents are, but I praise God that my mom will be coming back with me, to settle into my bare house with no furniture (save for a laptop hooked up to phone modem and a huge and out-of-place TV). i will miss cable internet, for sure. :)
in a rush to do things in korea that I can only do here, my sister and I have dutifully stuffed ourselves with three ice cream bars in the last two hours. i'm feeling a bit sick right now, but also a little strangely satisfied. i also saw the supermarket guy for the last time, the guy who scared me the first time I went in there to rent a video. not that he was scary, but he asked me my phone number (in case I decide to run off with the video) and i, feeling like a moron, didn't know my Korean phone number (SINCE I DON'T LIVE THERE NOT CUZ I'M STUPID). but because my korean gets worse under pressure, i wasn't able to defend myself. Instead, I came across as an idiot who doesn't even know her own phone number. i came home, so embarrassed, but i think everything's ok now, i'm not embarrassed. :) (maybe i maxed out on my embarrassment somewhere along the past few weeks...)
i also got a korean massage today! it was so nice, my sis and i finally found time to go to the new bathouse that they remodeled in our neighborhood. there were also these two american girls there, my sis got to talk to. they came, not only to spend some time in the bathouse, but also to exfoliate (ddeh meel uh, in Korean, a Korean cultural thing) and get a massage! i thought that was cool.
oh man, it's midnight again. there goes my plan for "going-to-sleep-early-so-i-will-get-adjusted-to-american-time-better" plan. my plan for getting over jet lag? trying to sleep as much as possible within the next two days, so I will be fresh for school on Monday morning. Second quarter, here I come!!
